Research at the FHNW Academy of Music focuses on the many different processes of artistic action and the philological-historical foundations of music (creating music, performance research, mediation and sources). The potential of the research activities of the FHNW Academy of Music dovetails with musical production, reflection and reception. For example, ‘Contemporary/New Music’ research focuses on five specific areas:
- Applied basic research
- New Music performance practice
- New Music instruments
- Human-computer communication
- Improvisation
Other projects explore music paedagogy and 19th century music. Thanks to cooperation with the University of Basel and partner universities abroad, the FHNW Academy of Music also offers doctoral programmes.
